Who We Are…

Founded in 1994 the Blavahash has been commonly referred to as “a kindler gentiler hash”, due to its HashPhilosophy of “shorter runs and lots of beer-stops”. This hash is only one of many around the world following the original model started in Malaysia back in 1938. This worldwide disorganization of "drinking clubs with running problems" is located in almost every capital city in over 180 countries worldwide. The typical BlavaHash is set through the streets of Bratislava and occasionally through the fields and forest trails outside the city, with around 10 to 30 semi-organized hashers who meet on predetermined days to run/walk a trail marked with colored flour mix. Although we at the Blavahash take our drinking problem very seriously, meaning that it is highly frowned upon to not consume ice-cold delicious Slovak beer, we do understand that water and soda have their purpose and we always have some softies on hand for those, hopefully few, health conscientious hashers.

BSH3 Hash Marks

The following Hash Marks and Hash Calls are used to communicate the route to ALL Hashes and the Hare's way of controlling the pack during the entire Hash, assuming you stay on trail - SCB's beware!

Hash Mark	Hash Call / Explanation
	Yell: "On One!" One dot means you are, On Trail. This does not mean you are on the True Trail only that you are on a trail.
	Yell: "On Two!" Two dots mean you are, On Trail. These dots do not mean you are on the True Trail only that you are on a trail.
	Yell: "On On!" or "On Three!" Congrats! You are now officially - On Trail - Three consecutive dots mean you are on the True Trail. Remember that only when you have 3 consecutive dots of colored flour are you truly on trail.
	Yell: "Check Point!" Slowdown! This is a Check Point, from this point you must wait for three hashers to reach the point and then may all begin searching for the correct trail by first yelling: "Checking!" and then dart off in whichever direction you think the True Trail is located. Remember from this point the trail splits and can go any direction. Happy Hunting!
	Yell: "Boob Check" No! Not that! Despite what your imagination suggests, this is a check where only women may look for the True Trail. The pack cannot proceed (except women) until a woman finds True Trail.
	Yell: "Beer Stop!" Thirsty? You should be; Hashing creates a thirst that only beer can quench. Well placed Beer Stops help keep hashers motivated and refreshed. For you non-drinkers (poor souls) feel free to help yourself to a water, soda, etc.
	Yell: "Hash Song!" Hopefully your vocal cords are already warmed-up. After enough hashers have reached the marking you will sing at least one song. There is no limit on amount of songs to be sung, so depending on the amount or HashDivas your next Beer Stop could be harshly delayed.
	Yell: "Hash View!" If you can't already see it you are at a "Hash View" this is a place to observe a scenic view from the trail and share a loud: "AWWWWWWWWW" with your fellow hashers.
	Yell: "On Back!" Stop! shout out: "On Back!" because you've just reached a "Dead End", go ahead and go back the way you came. Somewhere on the True Trail the Hare who set the run is indulging them self in your frustration. Enjoying the feeling it will happen often :) Keep Smiling!
	Yell: "On On!" Follow the arrow (duh!) If this is not clear contact Jailbait for your down-down
	Yell: "On In!" Congrats, You're Home! The "HHH" (Home Home Home) or "ON-IN" is the point at which there are no more check points and it is easy to follow the trail back to the finish.

The Blavahash is open to all; our only prerequisite is that you have a sense of humour. We meet on an irregular basis to, walk and run the streets and paths in and around Bratislava.

Our emphasis is on fun rather than competition, so your level of physical fitness does not matter here. If mixing with a good international group of people and participating in acts of wholesome fun such as but not limited to; speaking in a special language (See: Hashing Dicktionary), singing coarsely worded songs (see below) and downing beer, drinking from a dog bowl, etc; then the Blavahash is the Club for you!

The Final Circle…AKA “The On-On”

At the end of the trail, hashers gather and begin to talk and drink beer while waiting for all hashers to arrive. After everyone is accounted for its time to drink more beer, “religion” is normally led by the Blavahash GM and the Religious Adviser (RA). It is at this ceremony that hashers award "Down-Downs", a down-down is the act of chug-a-lugging beer, soda, or water from the Hash Mug. Once the signal is given to begin, the Hasher must drink until the cup leaves the drinker's lips and should be immediately turned upside-down over the drinker’s head to demonstrate to the Pack that the liquid is depleted. Down-downs are awarded to hashers by fellow hashers for alleged, real, and made up hash violations and other situations which rate this high honor such as, but not limited to;

Misleading the Hash,
Two Consecutive Hash Absences,
FRB's (Front Running Bastards),
SCB's (Short Cutting Bastards),
Silent Running,
Crop Bashing,
Departees,
Birthdays,
Weddings,
Emergence of offspring,
Late-coming,
Hash-Virgins (first-time hashers),
Visiting Hashers,
Naming (Fifth Blavahash),
Repeating Digit Run (11, 22, 33,etc.),
Hares,
New Shoes,
Color-Coordinated Clothes,
Runs Divisible by 10, and...
Any Hash Violations pointed out by the Circle.

As pointed out above we at the Blavahash take our drinking problem very seriously and "alcohol abuse" is not something we take lightly; however, non-drinkers can choose to either;

Pour beer over their own head or,
Preform a softie Down-Down (soda, water, etc).

The Circle normally lasts for about 20-40 minutes depending on the amount of things to award down-downs for.

Once on Trail…

The trail is laid by the Hare using set marking "Hash Marks" with colored flour; the majority of the time the trail is set a few hours in advance of the hash, rarely we have "live hares" which are given a 15 minute head start to mark a trail before we release the hounds (hashers). The whole idea of marking the trail is to help guide and keep all Hashers (runners and walkers) somewhat together during the hash and to have them reach beer-stops and the finish at about the same time, this is done by the Hare(s) setting;

False Trails,
Checks,
Boob Checks,
Dead Ends.

It is up to each Hasher to follow Internationally accepted forms of communication during the hash. These simple shouts, also known as “Calls of the Wild” help ensure the route, difficulty, and length of the trail retains the same form the Hare(s) planned on. The terrain covered during a typical hash is between 3 to 6 miles (5-10 kilometers), which should take about 45 minutes to 60 minutes to complete.

At the Starting Circle…

Hashers have a tendency to collectively gather into a circle and begin socializing and most of the time drinking. Once the Mismanagement Committee and the Hare(s) arrive, its time to get things started.

1. Each Hasher should pay the hash fee to Hash Cash.

2. All hashers will be briefed by the Hare(s) on what to expect during the run this is refered to as “Chalk Talk”;

Markings,
Live/or Dead trail
And the most important item - Number of beer stops.

3. Once all Hashers have been given the signal to start down the trail, you must first;

Search for the start of the trail (a splash of colored flour), shout - “ON!” – this informs other Hashers that you have found a possible trail.
Three consecutive blobs of colored flour indicates a correct trail. shout - “ON ON!” – to inform all Hashers that you are on the correct trail.

Hash Commandments

The following points were created to serve as guidelines for the hash. 1. The GM is always right
2. When the GM is wrong, Rule 1 applies

3. The RA is always right except when Rule 1 applies and there shall be no defense.

4. The RA checks on proper behavior before, during and between runs. It is left to the RA's discretion as to whether he/she will ignore any transgression, give a private reprimand or make a charge. If a charge is made a penalty will automatically follow.

5. The penalty for any transgression is one down-down, except when the charge is severe, when a penalty with shame shall apply. A penalty with shame is a down-down taken kneeling down (or on ice if any is available).

6. The most important rule of the Hash is that there are no rules. But, of course, to just about every rule, there are exceptions.

7. Beer is to be drunk when down-downing or poured over your own head. Excessive waste may result in a second down-down with shame.

8. No Whiners!.

9. With joyous heart, every Hasher will give Hash Cash Rs.150 after every run. No free runs.

10. Anyone having knowledge of a transgression by a fellow Hasher may make a charge during the down-downs. A charge will always result in a penalty for either the accused, the accuser, or both, at the discretion of the RA. Charges from the pack can be defended, but poor defense will result in a penalty with shame (see Rule 5).

11. Intelligence is neither required nor appreciated on the Hash. Thinking on the run is a punishable offence.

12. Short-cutting is allowed. Being caught short cutting is a serious offence (see Rule 10). A short-cutter will be known as an SCB (Short Cutting Bastard).

13. At more or less regular intervals, every Hasher will be asked to set a run. Since being a Hare is a great honor, refusals are neither expected nor accepted. If the run is acceptably good, the Hares will be awarded a down-down.

14. Silent running is a punishable offence.

15. After completing 50, 100, 150 etc. runs, a Hasher will be presented an award that will be theirs to keep, and also a down-down.

16. Every Hasher will be given a Hash Name after five runs. They will subsequently be known only by this Hash Name. Failure to observe this rule will result in a charge

17. The Hash has Internationally accepted forms of communication on the run: When ON flour shout 'On-On'. When Checking shout 'Checking'. When calling someone back to the correct trail shout 'On Back'. All calling must be at an appropriately high decibel level. Failure to comply will result in a charge under Rule 14. Hashers caught shouting 'On-On' when not in sight of flour will be charged with misleading the Hash. (See Rule 23).

18. All Hashers should be strongly committed to the Hash and attend gatherings whenever possible. Irregular attendance will be noticed and charged. (i.e. two consecutive absences).

19. The Hash is a non-competitive run through the local countryside in order to encourage a thirst for beer that should already exist. Aggressive running is totally banned and is a punishable offence. Aggressive runners will be called FRB's (Front Running Bastards). Persistent FRB's may be awarded a down-down prior to a run to curb their enthusiasm.

20. No crop bashing will occur during the run. Down-down with shame to the offenders.

21. Stationary checking or refusal to check when so required by the RA will undoubtedly result in a charge.

22. Leading the Hash astray is easy. However, the perpetrator of this crime will surely be made to suffer.

23. The rules are not comprehensive and therefore rule 24 applies.

24. The GM can add, delete or change, any rule, at any time. No public announcement will be deemed necessary, however transgressions will still result in a charge.

25. The Hash is not a democracy. The GM is always right.

This is where the social aspect of the hash shifts gears, after the Circle is over most Hashers head off to a nearby pub/restaurant. The hashers continue to drink and eat while telling jokes and singing songs throughout the night. As far as money is concerned the “On-After” is on your wallet, the original Hash fee covered the down-down drinks. All profits go toward future hashes where money is needed to cover costs.
